[Adopted as Ch. 12, Art. 15 of the 1986 Code]
A. There is hereby created a Traffic Safety Commission
for the Village of Shorewood consisting of eight members, all of whom
shall be residents of the Village and shall be appointed by the Village
President with the approval of the Village Board. Beginning in the
year 1979, two members shall be appointed for one year, three members
shall be appointed for two years, and three members shall be appointed
for three years, respectively. In addition, one Shorewood High School
student shall be appointed annually as a voting member of the Commission
for a one-year term upon recommendation of the principal of the high
school or his designee. Beginning in the year 1980, with the exception
of the student appointment, all appointments shall be made for three-year
terms. Terms shall commence as of the first day of June in the year
of the appointment. Members shall continue in office until their successors
have been appointed. Vacancies shall be filled for unexpired terms.
The Village Building Inspector and a member of the Police Department
to be designated for such service by the Chief of Police shall be
ex officio nonvoting members of the Commission.
B. The Traffic Safety Commission shall choose one of
its members as Chairman and one as Secretary. It shall be the duty
of the Secretary to call the meetings of the Commission and to keep
the minutes of the meetings.
C. This organization shall be known as the "Shorewood
Traffic Safety Commission."
A. The Commission shall hold regular or special meetings
at such time and place as designated by the Commission.
B. The Chairman will appoint such committees as the Commission
deems advisable to create for the carrying out of its work.
C. A majority of members at any regular or special meeting
shall constitute a quorum thereof.
D. Each member shall be entitled to one vote.
E. No officer or member of this Commission shall have
power to act in its behalf or use its name unless official sanction
is granted by a majority vote of the Commission at a duly called regular
or special meeting.
F. It shall be the duty of the Commission to investigate
problems of traffic safety and to educate the public on such matters.
G. Commercial advertising of any kind will not be considered
or sanctioned by the Commission. The Commission, however, reserves
the right to decide the merits of educational advertising.
The Commission is empowered to create an advisory
committee to be composed of civic-minded residents of the Village.
