It is hereby established within and under the direction
of the South River Fire Department a program to be commonly known
as the "Junior Firemen Program." Said program will be coordinated
by a member of the South River Fire Department along with specific
advisors who shall also be members of the South River Fire Department.
Members of the South River Junior Firemen Program
must adhere to all minimum requirements as set forth by N.J.S.A. 40A:15-96
et seq. along with the following qualifications. Inasmuch as the New
Jersey State statutes are minimum qualifications, any qualifications
contained herein which are more stringent shall be controlling qualifications
for said Junior Firemen Program.
Respond to the fire house until 9:00 p.m. during school,
except that if there is a fire alarm they may remain until 11:00 p.m.
with their parent's/guardian's permission. On weekends and during
summer vacations, they may remain at the firehouse until 11:00 p.m.
with parental/guardian permission.
Obtain training for dispatching a truck procedures
(maintenance) and the fundamentals of fire fighting, preparing them
to become regular members of the South River Fire Department upon
obtaining the age of 18 or as soon thereafter as they may wish.
Junior firemen shall listen to all fire directives
given by the South River Fire Chief, all line officers, South River
Junior Firemen Program coordinators and advisors.
Junior firemen may be allowed to ride on fire apparatus
in a belted position to and from a fire scene. However, said junior
firemen may not fight or aid in the fighting of a fire and may not
go within the confines of the fire scene. Said junior firemen shall
be allowed to stay with the truck and perform routine maintenance
on equipment and obtaining or replacing fire apparatus from the fire
truck which may be needed by firemen at the site of said vehicle.
