There shall be an agency known as the "Code Enforcement Authority." The Authority shall consist of the Director of Land Use or his or her designee, the Secretary to the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency, the Director of Health, the Chief Building Official and the Fire Marshals for the three fire districts. The persons serving in these positions shall be members of the Code Enforcement Authority for so long as they hold such positions.
The purpose of the Authority is to provide coordination of enforcement of all codes and regulations required by statute or ordinance to be enforced by the Planning and Zoning Commission, Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency, Health Department, the Building Division of the Public Works Department and the Fire Marshals. The Authority shall not interfere with the regular administrative enforcement of regulations and codes resulting from the application for and issuing of various permits. The concern of the Authority will be to prevent willful violation of codes and regulations. The Authority shall assist in resolution of code enforcement problems that cannot be handled by officers authorized and responsible for enforcing the specific regulations and codes through routine administrative procedures.
