A Borough Prosecutor shall be appointed for a term of one year by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. He shall be an attorney at law of New Jersey but need not be a resident of the Borough.
The duties of the Prosecutor shall be to attend all sessions of the Municipal Court of the municipality; to represent all municipal boards, officers or employees in any complaints filed by such boards, officers or employees in the Municipal Court; and to prepare and prosecute all cases of a criminal nature or a quasicriminal nature, including violations of the ordinances of the municipality, or any other cases cognizable in the Municipal Court which the Municipal Judge deems proper to be prepared and presented by the prosecutor. The Borough Prosecutor shall also appear before the Council upon its request to prosecute any matters which may be within its jurisdiction.
