As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
HOUSEHOLD PET
Smaller domesticated animals, residing within a dwelling unit and not raised for commercial purposes. These shall include dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters, birds, turtles, chickens, rabbits and tropical fish. A household pet shall not include ducks, rodents, roosters, geese, horses, turkeys, goats and sheep.

SMALL ANIMAL
Includes rabbits, mink, guinea pigs, rodents, ducks, geese, wild birds and any other small animal kept or raised for commercial purposes, for sale or for the production of meat; fur or wool, or for exhibition or as a source of supply for laboratories; or for private use such as pets, provided that the term "small animals" shall not apply if they total in the aggregate less than four in number.

As permitted by § 150-19G, the total number of household pets shall not exceed four. The care or breeding of the same for commercial purposes is prohibited.
A. 
No person shall keep any small animal infected with skin mange, coccidosis, parasitic worms or other diseases contagious to other animals or human beings. Any such animal so infected shall immediately be destroyed and the carcass cremated.
B. 
Any hutch or coop wherein an infected animal is found and all adjoining hutches or coops shall be destroyed or thoroughly disinfected with a germicide approved by the Board of Health and under the direction of the Health Officer.
C. 
The provisions of this section shall not apply to any small animal under regular professional treatment by a duly licensed veterinarian, but all provisions shall apply fully when treatment is discontinued without a full cure having been effected or when the veterinarian certifies that in his opinion cure cannot be effected.

A. 
Hutches and coops.
(1) 
No hutch or coop shall be located in the front yard of a property.
(2) 
A hutch or coop shall only be located in the rear yard of a property.
(3) 
A hutch or coop shall be required to be a minimum of 35 feet from all property lines if located in the R-1 District and 15 feet from all property lines if located in the R-2 District.
(4) 
No person shall keep any household pet in a hutch or coop of a size having less than eight square feet of floor space and being less than two feet in height without special permission from the Board.
(5) 
Each hutch or coop shall be dry and adequately ventilated and shall be cleaned daily and rebedded with fresh straw, leaves or other absorbent material.
B. 
No person shall allow any household pet to run at large.

Any person convicted of violating any provision of this chapter shall be subject to such fines and penalties as set forth in § 1-15 of the Borough Code.
