There shall be established a Commission on Aging
for the Town of Old Lyme.
Said Commission shall have the following responsibilities.
It shall:
A. Determine the needs and problems of the elderly and
alert the Board of Selectmen and the community to them.
B. Review and evaluate the services offered and available
to the elderly.
C. Work in cooperation with and through the Municipal
Agent for the Elderly.
D. Work in close cooperation with the Estuary Council
of Senior Clubs, Inc., the Estuary Regional Committee on Aging, the
nine towns of the Estuary Region and the Eastern Area Agency on Aging.
E. Advise the elderly of the Town of Old Lyme of the
services and programs available to them and encourage their participation
in the use of such services.
F. Serve as advisers to the Board of Selectmen and the
Board of Finance in relation to the financial support of programs
for the elderly of the Town of Old Lyme.
G. Assist and cooperate with the senior organizations
in the Town of Old Lyme and endeavor to coordinate programs and services
through those organizations.
H. Review and recommend local applications for federal
and state funding to be used to provide services and programs for
the elderly, including transportation, health, information and referral,
companionship, outreach and recreation.
Any vacancy in the membership may be filled
for the unexpired term of such member by the Board of Selectmen, provided
that the successor shall be of the same designated office as his predecessor.
