The following terms are defined for the purpose of Chapter
52:
BEACH
That portion of the shore of the Atlantic Ocean which extends
from the mean low water line inland to the landward toe of the primary
dune.
BEACH TENT
A shading device, including but not limited to tents, tarps,
pavilions or similar devices mounted on supports and open on no fewer
than three sides. Such tents shall be either a maximum of eight feet
in diameter and eight feet in height or no larger than 10 feet by
10 feet and eight feet in height.

DUNE
A mound, hill or ridge of sand or other earthen material
formed by any means whatsoever, either bare or covered with vegetation,
naturally or artificially accumulated.
MOTORIZED VEHICLES
Every vehicle that is self-propelled, including, but not
limited to, mopeds, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV) and other
two-, three- or four-wheeled vehicles, to include snowmobiles.
PRIMARY DUNE
That dune which roughly parallels the shoreline in a more
or less continuous fashion and is generally the first and largest
dune encountered moving landward from the shoreline and extends from
the seaward toe of the dune to the landward toe of the dune.
SAND FENCE
A barrier made of posts, wires and boards or synthetic materials,
including plastic, nylon and polyester intended primarily to trap
and collect windblown sand, but which may also be used to channel
human and vehicular traffic.
SHORELINE
The intersection of the sea with the land; the line delineating
the shoreline on National Ocean Survey nautical charts and surveys,
and approximates the mean high water line at the time of the survey.
SMOKING
The burning, heating, inhaling or exhaling of a cigarette,
cigar, pipe or other product or device that contains tobacco, herbs,
weeds and/or marijuana, including the use of e-cigarettes and vaporizers.

UMBRELLAS
Collapsible shades stretched over hinged ribs radiating from
a central pole no greater than eight feet in diameter and no greater
than eight feet in height; are permitted.

VESSEL
A structure designed for navigation on water.
A.
MOTORIZED VESSELS—Any structure designed
for navigation on water, which is propelled by a motor or remote control
device.
B.
NONMOTORIZED VESSEL—Any human- or wind-powered
structure designed for navigation, such as surfboards, sailboats,
Windsurfers, canoes, kayaks and rowboats.
