To promote the public safety, health and welfare, particularly to facilitate
the delivery of fire protection, police, ambulance, and postal services to
its townspeople, the Town of East Hampton adopts the following regulations
to govern the posting of address identifying numbers on buildings within the
Town.
All residential, business, or other principal buildings erected or to
be erected within the Town of East Hampton shall display address identifying
numbers, as assigned by the Town of East Hampton, in conformance with the
specifications provided herein.
All such private roads shall be posted in a manner so that the names
are clearly visible and identifiable.
This chapter shall become effective July 1, 1996.
Any building owner in violation of this chapter shall receive a warning
notice of the violation(s), issued by the official designated by the Town
Council. The warning notice shall allow an initial 30 days for the violation(s)
to be corrected. It shall be the responsibility of the building owner to notify
the Town official when the violation(s) has been corrected. If, at the end
of the initial thirty-day period, the correction(s) has not been made, the
owner shall be subject to a fine of $25, and a second warning notice of the
violation(s) shall be issued. The second warning notice shall allow an additional
10 days for the violation(s) to be corrected. If, at the end of the additional
ten-day period, the correction(s) has not been made, the owner shall be subject
to additional fines of $5 a day for each day thereafter that the violation(s)
is not corrected, to a maximum of $100, inclusive of the citation fine of
$25.
