[Adopted as § 2-15 of the 1970 Revised General Ordinances]
There shall be a Department of Building Inspection, the head of which shall be the Building Inspector. The Building Inspector shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council, to serve for a term of one year. Prior to his appointment he shall be qualified by training and experience in the duties of a Building Inspector.

The Building Inspector shall issue building permits and certificates of occupancy, all pursuant to the Building Code. The Building Inspector shall:

Enforce the building code and have all the powers, functions and duties prescribed by general law and ordinance for building inspectors.
B. 
Keep a record of his proceedings, a permit book and complaint book, all of which shall be subject to inspection. He shall report regularly to the Mayor and Council, at their direction, the number of permits issued, the estimated cost of such work and the fees received and paid by him to the Treasurer.

A. 
There shall be created the position of Deputy Building Inspector, who shall be prepared to assume the duties of Building Inspector in the absence of the Building Inspector. He shall familiarize himself with the operations of the Department of Building Inspection in order to assume the duties of Building Inspector and shall take the course of study for building inspectors offered by the State of New Jersey and the certification test offered.
B. 
Compensation for work shall be as fixed by resolution of the Mayor and Council.

The Zoning Officer is hereby given the duty, power and authority to enforce the provisions of the zoning code, Chapter 220. There may also be appointed an Assistant Zoning Officer who shall also have the duty, power and authority to enforce the provisions of the zoning code. The power to enforce the zoning code shall include the power of the Zoning Officer and Assistant Zoning Officer to issue stop-work orders. Appeals of the decision to issue a stop work order shall be to the Borough of Alpine Zoning Board of Adjustment in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:55D-72. The Zoning Officer shall examine all applications for zoning permits and issue said zoning permits for all uses which are in accordance with the requirements of the zoning code. The Zoning Officer shall interpret and respond to questions concerning the zoning code and review land use applications for compliance with the zoning code. The Zoning Officer shall also record and file all applications for zoning permits, with accompanying plans and documents, and make reports to the Mayor and Council, the Building Inspector and the Tax Assessor.
