Definitions. For the purpose of this chapter, the
following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
A-WEIGHTED DECIBEL (dba)
The sound pressure level measured by the use of an instrument
with the metering characteristics and A-weighting frequency response
prescribed for sound level meters.
DECIBEL
The sound pressure level which is twenty times the logarithm
to the base 10 of the ratio of the root mean squared pressure of a
sound to a reference pressure of 20 micropascals.
LEQ NOISE LEVEL
The level of a constant noise source measured in A-weighted
decibels (dba) at a distance of 50 feet from the center of the lane
in which a motor vehicle is traveling which has an amount of acoustic
energy equivalent to that contained in the measured time varying noise
for a given time interval.
MOTOR VEHICLE
Every vehicle operated or driven upon a public highway which
is propelled by any power other than muscular power, except electrically
driven invalid chairs being operated or driven by an invalid, vehicles
which run only upon rails or tracks, snowmobiles and vehicles owned
or operated by the Village of Bronxville.
PEAK NOISE LEVEL
The maximum instantaneous sound pressure level measured in
A-weighted decibels (dba) generated by a motor vehicle.
PERSON
Includes not only human beings but, where appropriate, public
or private corporations, unincorporated associations or partnerships.
VILLAGE
The area located within the boundaries of the Incorporated
Village of Bronxville.
