All joints under this article shall be made
gas- and watertight. In addition, the first joint upon leaving the
building shall be caulked with lead and oakum, and the first joint
rising within the building shall be caulked with lead and oakum.
All caulked joints shall be firmly packed with
oakum or hemp and shall be secured with pure molten lead, not less
than one inch deep, well caulked.

No-hub pipe may be used for storm drains or
leader drains only. This is to be correctly secured and hung, installing
sway bars at various points, and inspected at the discretion of the
Plumbing Inspector.
All screw joints shall be American standard
screw joints, and all burrs or cuttings shall be removed.
The joints may be either screwed or caulked
joints in the approved manner.
Joints in lead pipe or between lead pipe and
brass or copper pipes, ferrules, soldering nipples, bushings or taps
shall be full-wiped solder joints.
The joints shall be made by means of a caulking
ferrule, soldering nipples or bushings.
Slip joints shall be permitted only in trap
seals or on the inlet side of the trap.

The joints at the roof shall be made watertight
by use of copper, lead or iron plates or flashings. The joints at
roof and storm drains shall be watertight and tested. Cast iron or
copper, Type K, shall be used inside of the building. From five feet
outside of the building, cast-iron or Class 2400 asbestos cement pipe
inbedded in sand may be used at the discretion of the Plumbing Inspector.
A brass floor connection shall be made wiped
or soldered to lead pipe, an iron floor connection shall be caulked
to cast-iron pipe or an iron floor connection caulked or screwed to
wrought-iron pipe and the floor connections bolted to an earthenware
trap flange. All floor connections shall be made gastight in a manner
to meet with the approval of the Inspector.
Where different sizes of pipes or pipes and
fittings are to be connected, proper size increasers or reducers,
pitched at an angle of 45° between the two sizes, shall be used.
All stacks of soil or waste pipes shall be at least four-inch size
through any roof, and increasers shall be provided below the roof
where required.
