[Amended 10-13-1981]
All main or branch soil, waste and vent piping
within the building shall be of service-weight cast iron, galvanized
steel or wrought iron, brass or copper, except that no galvanized
steel or wrought iron pipe shall be used for underground soil or waste
pipes. Extra-heavy weight cast iron may be used in place of service-weight
cast iron at the direction of the Town Plumbing Inspector or Superintendent
of Buildings, where deemed necessary. Short branches on water closets
may be of lead only.
The following table based on the rate of discharge
from a lavatory as the unit shall be employed to determine fixture
equivalents:

Every building in which plumbing fixtures are
installed shall have a soil or waste stack or stacks extending full
size (four inches minimum) through the roof. Soil and waste stacks
shall be as direct as possible and free from sharp bends and turns.
The required size of a soil or waste stack shall be determined from
the distribution and totals of all fixture units connected to the
stack in accordance with Table No. 2 given below and to which reference
is hereby made, except that no water closet shall discharge into a
stack less than three inches in diameter.

NOTES:
|
---|
* The term "branch interval" shall be interpreted
to mean a vertical length of stack, not less than eight feet, within
which a branch or branches are connected, and the total fixture units
on all branches connected to a stack within eight feet length shall
not exceed the maximum permitted by the table in one branch interval.
|
No fixture connection shall be made to a lead
bend or branch of a water closet. No soil or waste vent above the
highest installed fixture on the branch or main shall thereafter be
used as a soil or waste pipe unless vents are carried above the highest
fixtures.
No soil or waste stack shall be installed or
permitted outside of a building unless adequate provision is made
to protect it from frost.
All roof extensions of soil and waste stacks
shall be run full size and be of four-inch minimum diameter, at least
one foot above the roof, and when the roof is used for other, such
extension shall be not less than six feet above the roof. Long increasers
at least one foot below the roof shall be provided where change in
size to roof extensions occur.
The roof terminal of any stack or vent, if within
12 feet of any window or air shaft, shall extend at least three feet
above the same and be terminated as directed by the Inspector.
A. No soil, vent or waste pipe extension from any new
or existing building shall be run or placed on an adjoining wall,
but it shall be carried up inside its own roof area to a level above
the highest adjoining roof.
B. In the event that a new building is built higher than
an adjoining building, the owner of the new building shall not locate
windows within 12 feet of any existing vent stack on the lower building
unless the owner of such new building shall extend the soil, waste
or vent pipe of the lower existing building above the roof level of
such new building at his own expense. It shall be the duty of the
owner of the lower existing building to give reasonable cooperation
to the adjoining building owner in carrying out the above requirements.
Any vertical branch rising more than 10 feet
or any lateral branch running more than 25 feet from the main soil
line shall be continued full size to a point above the roof in the
same manner as required for main soil pipes or may be returned to
the main vent pipe full size.
Every fixture trap shall be individually protected
against siphonage and back pressure and air circulation assured by
means of an individual back vent to a soil or waste stack vent. No
crown vents shall be installed.
No trap shall be placed more than two feet horizontal
developed length from its vent connection, except that the distance
between the vent and trap may be 15 feet or less on the waste from
a surgical operating table, dental cuspidor or other approved similar
fixture. The distance shall be measured along the central line of
the waste or soil pipe from the vertical inlet of the trap to the
vent opening. The vent opening from the soil or waste pipe, except
for water closets and similar fixtures, shall not be below the dip
of the trap.
All main vents or vent stacks shall connect
full size at their base, at a forty-five-degree maximum angle, to
the main soil or waste pipe at or below the lowest fixture branch,
and shall extend undiminished in size above the roof or shall be reconnected
with the main soil or waste vent at least three feet above the highest
fixture branch.
The required size of the main vents or vent
stacks shall be determined on the basis of the size of the soil or
waste stack, the number of fixtures or fixture units connected to
the soil or waste stack and the developed length of the main vent
or vent stack in accordance with Table No. 3 given below and to which
reference is hereby made.

No vents shall be less than 1 1/2 inches
in diameter. For one-and-one-half-inch wastes, the vent shall be 1 1/2
inches, and in no case shall a branch or main vent have a diameter
of less than 1/2 that of the soil or waste pipe served, and in no
case shall the length of a branch vent of given diameter exceed the
maximum length permitted for the main vent serving the main size soil
or vent stack. Water-closet vents shall be two inches.
All vent and branch vent pipes shall be properly
graded. Where vent pipes connect to a horizontal soil or waste pipe
as in cases for closets, tubs and showers, the vent branch shall be
taken off above the center line of the pipe, and the vent must rise
vertically or at an angle of 45° to the vertical to a point six
inches above the top of the fixture it is venting before offsetting
horizontally or connecting to the branch, main waste or soil vent.
For showers, the height of permissible offset shall be 18 inches above
the top of the drain. Branch vents for water-closet traps shall be
taken off not more than two feet from the crown of the trap.
No vent will be required on a backwater trap.
