Every person who shall kindle or maintain any
outdoor fire or cause to be kindled or maintained any outdoor fire
in the Town shall be guilty of an offense.
Nothing contained in this section shall be construed
to prevent:
A. Cooking of food on barbecues, fireplaces or grills;
B. Fires authorized by the Fire Department for the purpose
of training firefighters and retarding the spread of fires; and
C. Burning of large quantities of cut wood or brush material resulting from maintenance or clearance of land during daylight hours, provided that a written permit for such burning has been issued by the Fire Chief pursuant to §
47-3 below.
Each such permit shall describe the premises where the burning
is to take place, indicate the name and address of the permittee and
the date of expiration of the permit, which shall fall within a period
not to exceed three months from the date of issuance of such license.
Such permits shall be issued for land clearances in farming zones
only, with the exception that such permits may be issued for initial
land clearances in all other zones.
Violations of the provisions of this chapter shall be punishable as provided in Chapter
1, Article
III, of the Code of the Town of East Greenwich.
