Either the Police Department or the Department of Public Works
of this municipality is hereby authorized to remove any vehicle from
any public street or highway and to the nearest garage or other place
of safety or to a parking area maintained by the municipality under
the circumstances hereinafter enumerated.
A. Where a vehicle is left unattended or is parked upon a public street
or highway in violation of any municipal ordinance.
If a member of either the Police Department or the Department of Public Works under any of the circumstances referred to in §
477-2 hereof is able to ascertain the name and address of the owner of said vehicle, such representative of the Police Department or Department of Public Works shall immediately give notice, in writing, to such owner of the removal of the vehicle from the public street or public highway and the reason or reasons therefor, as well as the place to which the vehicle has been removed.
The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and
storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession
of the vehicle.
