A. The salary of all elected officers specified in Subsection
B holding positions under the Suffolk County Charter shall be increased annually commencing January 1, 2001, by an amount equal to the lesser of 4% or the amount of increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the New York - Northern New Jersey - Long Island Region published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor for the preceding year, subject to the provisions of Subsection
C of this section.
B. Salaries for the following officers shall be subject to the maximum annual adjustment set forth in Subsection

C. The automatic salary increases for elected officers authorized by Subsection
A shall be suspended for the four-year periods set forth below. The salary of the County's elected officers may only be increased during the periods set forth below by a duly enacted resolution of the County of Suffolk.

D. Notwithstanding §
205-2C and §
205-5A, in no event shall the District Attorney's salary be less than allowed under state law.
This article shall not take effect until at least 45 days after
adoption, nor until approved by the affirmative vote of a majority
of the qualified electors of the County of Suffolk voting on a proposition
for its approval if, within 45 days after its adoption, there is filed
with the Clerk of the County Legislature a petition protesting against
such law in conformity with the provisions of § 24, Subdivision
2h, of the Municipal Home Rule Law, and upon filing in the office
of the Secretary of State.
