The Board of Selectmen shall appoint a Council on Aging for
the purpose of coordinating or carrying out programs designed to meet
the problems of aging in cooperation with programs of the Department
of Elder Affairs established under M.G.L. ch. 40, § 8B.
The Board of Selectmen shall appoint a Council on Aging consisting
of seven members in staggered terms of three years. The members of
the Council on Aging shall serve without pay.
Whenever a vacancy shall occur in the membership of the Council
on Aging, by reason of death, resignation, inability to act, or for
any other reason, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the
Board of Selectmen for the remainder of the term.
The Council on Aging in April of each year shall elect from
its membership a Chairman, President, Vice Chairman, and Secretary/Treasurer.
Each officer shall hold office until the next annual election. In
the event a vacancy occurs in any of the offices above, the Council
on Aging shall elect a replacement at its next regular meeting.
The Council on Aging shall prepare and submit an annual report
of its activities to the Town and shall send a copy thereof to the
Department of Elder Affairs.
