The Village has expended and continues to expend considerable
monies to develop waterfront property within the Village on property
owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village for the purpose
of economic development, tourism, commerce and parks and recreation.
It is hereby found and determined that it is in the best interest
of the health, safety and public welfare of the citizens of the Village
and community to regulate fishing on said properties. It is the intent
of this chapter to only authorize the regulation of fishing on property
owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village and not on
private property.
The Board of Trustees is hereby authorized to enact by resolution
any and all necessary restrictions, controls, prohibitions or the
like for the regulation of fishing within the Village on property
owned, leased and/or directly controlled by the Village and to provide
for the posting of any and all necessary signs concerning same. This
section shall not apply to private property.
Violations of any of the provisions of this chapter and any
duly enacted resolutions pursuant hereto shall constitute a violation
under the Penal Law and are punishable by a fine of up to $250 or
a sentence of imprisonment fixed by the court which shall not exceed
15 days, or both such fine and imprisonment.
