It shall be lawful for any bona fide religious,
charitable or nonprofit organization of veterans, volunteer firemen
and similar nonprofit organizations, upon obtaining a license therefor
as provided by Article 14-H of the General Municipal Law of the State
of New York, to conduct the game of bingo within the territorial limits
of the Incorporated Village of Athens, subject to the provisions of
this article, the provisions of Article 14-H of the General Municipal
Law and the provisions of the State Lottery Control Law.

All games of bingo shall be subject to the restrictions
set forth in General Municipal Law § 479 and the other restrictions
set forth in General Municipal Law Article 14-H.

This article shall be known as the "Games of Chance Law of the
Village of Athens."
As used in this article, the following terms shall, have the
following meanings:
AUTHORIZED ORGANIZATION
An authorized organization as defined in Paragraph 4 of § 186
of the General Municipal Law.
GAME OF CHANCE
A game of chance as defined in Paragraph 3 of § 186
of the General Municipal Law.
Authorized organizations may, upon the issuance of a license
from the Clerk of the Village, conduct games of chance within the
Village of Athens as provided in Article 9-A of the General Municipal
and as provided further in this article. Such games of chance shall
be conducted in accordance with the general state law, the rules and
regulations of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board and this
article.
The chief law enforcement officer, the Greene County Sheriff,
shall exercise control over and supervision of all games of chance
conducted under a properly issued license. Such officer shall have
all those powers and duties set forth in Article 9-A of the General
Municipal Law.
This article shall take effect immediately upon filing with
the Secretary of State's office. This article was adopted subject
to a permissive referendum and no petition was filed with the Clerk
of the Village seeking that same be placed before the voters of the
Village of Athens in accordance with the requirements of Article 9-A,
§ 187, of the General Municipal Law.
