The position of Deputy Tax Collector is hereby created to assist the Tax Collector and to provide for an acting Tax Collector in the event of absence, disability or other unforeseen circumstances.
A. 
The Deputy Tax Collector shall perform such duties as may be assigned and designated by the Tax Collector and City Manager, including the keeping of books and records as more specifically described in N.J.S.A. 40:56-31.
B. 
Where the Tax Collector is unavailable due to illness, disability or absence, the Deputy Tax Collector shall act in his or her place and shall perform the statutory and common law duties of the Tax Collector.
The Deputy Tax Collector shall serve for a term of one year commencing from the date of appointment. Said term shall automatically renew unless the City Manager shall, 30 days before expiration of the term, exercise his authority and otherwise indicate in writing to the City Council.
The Compensation of the Deputy Tax Collector shall be set forth in a Salary Ordinance or an amendment thereto adopted by the City Council. [1]
