No sign shall be displayed in R Districts except as follows:
A. 
One nameplate not exceeding one square foot in area, of which any illumination shall be indirect and nonintermittent, identifying a professional office conducted in the building on which such sign is displayed.
B. 
One sign not exceeding 16 square feet in area, identifying a house of worship, school, hospital, club, public use or institutional use permitted in the district.
C. 
One "for sale" or "for rent" sign not exceeding four square feet in area, advertising only the property on which it is displayed.
D. 
No sign shall project over any part of any street.
E. 
On the walls of any structure containing a use permitted in a B, LM or I District but not in an R District and which exists as a nonconforming use, there may be displayed signs which advertise only the activity conducted on the premises on which the same is situated and the aggregate area of such sign shall not exceed 10% of the facade of the first story and such sign shall be so situated as not to exceed the height of the building on which located, and any illumination of such sign shall be indirect and nonintermittent.
Signs in B-1 and B-2D Districts shall be permitted only when conforming to the following requirements:
A. 
They shall only identify the activity conducted or products sold upon the premises upon which they are located.
B. 
They may be displayed only on the facade of a building and shall not project at an angle from the wall thereof.
C. 
The area of the signs displayed may not exceed 10% of the area of the first floor of the facade.
D. 
They shall not exceed the height of the highest building on the lot.
Signs in B-2 and LM Districts shall be permitted when conforming to the following requirements:
A. 
No sign shall be placed on the roof of a building nor placed on its walls so as to exceed in height the roof of a building.
B. 
The aggregate area of all signs displayed upon the walls of a building shall not exceed six square feet for each foot of width of the facade of the building upon which such signs are situated, nor shall the vertical dimensions of such sign exceed six feet, nor shall such sign advertise products or services other than those available on its premises.
C. 
A freestanding sign shall be permitted only upon a lot occupied by a business structure or use and shall refer only to the products and services available on such lot.
There shall be no limitation upon the erection, maintenance, size and character of signs in the I Districts, except that:
A. 
No sign or billboard shall extend over a sidewalk or other public way.
B. 
No freestanding sign or billboard shall have less than three feet of bottom open space along its entire length. Latticing shall be regarded as satisfying the purposes of open space.
C. 
In matters of setback from the street and in all other respects, stationary signs larger than eight square feet in size shall be regarded as buildings or structures within the meaning of this chapter.
D. 
Signs otherwise meeting the requirements of the Building Code[1] may be placed upon or attached to the roof of a building; provided, however, that such sign shall be set back at least four feet from the front of the building and shall have not less than six feet of bottom open space along its entire length.

E. 
No sign shall be attached to or placed upon another sign.
F. 
No sign shall be illuminated by intermittent, revolving or flashing lights.
