The office of Deputy Tax Assessor is hereby created and established in and for the Township of Hillsborough.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall, as a condition of eligibility for appointment and for continuance in office, be the holder of a New Jersey tax assessor certificate issued pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 44 of the Laws of New Jersey, 1967 and the amendments and supplements thereto.[1]

The Deputy Tax Assessor shall be appointed by the Township Committee and shall serve at the pleasure of the Township Committee. The Township Committee may remove the Deputy Tax Assessor at any time by a  two-thirds majority vote of all its members. A reasonable period of notification, not less than 90 days, shall be given by the Township Committee or by the Deputy Tax Assessor upon termination of employment. The period of notification may be less only upon mutual agreement of the Township Committee and the Deputy Tax Assessor.

The Deputy Tax Assessor shall receive such compensation as is limited by the Salary Ordinance[1] and set by resolution, as both may be amended from time to time.

The duties of the Deputy Tax Assessor shall be performed under the supervision and at the direction of the Tax Assessor, who shall be responsible for the making of all assessments of taxable property within the Township of Hillsborough. Said duties of the Deputy Tax Assessor shall include the following:
A. 
Familiarization with electrodata processing and with the tax roll and tax duplicate of Hillsborough Township, to the end that he may assist in maintaining a proper tax equalization program throughout the Township.
B. 
Maintaining office hours in the Municipal Building as designated in writing by the Tax Assessor.
C. 
Assisting the Tax Assessor in preparation for the defense of all tax appeals and participating therein as directed by the Tax Assessor.
D. 
Performing all duties that may be assigned to him by the Tax Assessor in connection with the establishing of the proper equalized assessment of all taxable property within the Township of Hillsborough.
The Deputy Tax Assessor shall be required to devote full time to the duties of this office.
