A. 
Within the office of the Township Manager, there is hereby established the office of the Municipal Public Defender, the head of which shall have the title "Municipal Public Defender."
B. 
The Municipal Public Defender shall be appointed by the Council for a term of one year and shall receive such compensation as provided by the Council.
The Municipal Public Defender shall provide for the legal representation of any person determined in accordance with law to be indigent and charged with a disorderly persons offense or with the violation of any law, ordinance or regulation of a penal nature, where there is a likelihood that the person so charged, if convicted, will be subject to imprisonment or, in the opinion of the Municipal Judge, any other consequence of magnitude.[1]
