A. 
The official holidays, with pay, which are observed by the Borough are as follows:

Lincoln's Birthday.

(5) 
Memorial Day.
(6) 
Independence Day.
(7) 
Labor Day.

Columbus Day.

Thanksgiving Day.
(12) 
Christmas Day.
B. 
If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it shall be observed on the following Monday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it shall be observed on the preceding Friday.
C. 
A doctor's note will be required in the case of an absence due to illness on the day immediately preceding or following a designated holiday. The note is due on the day the employee returns to work. The note shall state the medical reasons requiring the absence together with the dates of absence. Failure to submit the required note will result in the employee not being paid for the sick day.

A. 
Where it is necessary to maintain service requiring an employee to work on an official holiday, as part of his regular work schedule, that employee shall be compensated by being permitted to take an equal amount of time off, with pay, on a regular working day at a time approved by the department head. In the event that an emergency occurs and the employee is required to work on a holiday, that employee shall receive compensation at the rate of 1 1/2 times his regular rate.

B. 
In the event that an official holiday occurs while an employee is on sick leave, he shall not have that holiday charged against his sick leave.
A. 
Employees shall be granted vacation leave, with pay, each calendar year in accordance with the following schedule, which shall be retroactive to the date full-time employment commenced.
B. 
In computing vacation time for the current year, length of continuous employment prior to May 1 will be used to determine vacation earned.

C. 
The amount of vacation time will be computed as follows:

(1) 
First year of service: five working days.
(2) 
Second through sixth year of service: 10 working days.
(3) 
Seventh through 11th year of service: 15 working days.
(4) 
Twelfth through 16th year of service: 20 working days.
(5) 
Seventeenth year of service: one additional day for every year of service for a maximum of 25 days.

Editor's Note: This ordinance also repealed former § 26-20D, which previously followed this subsection, regarding vacation for employees who were appointed for a fixed term and whose regular workweek is 20 hours or more.

A. 
All such vacation leaves shall be taken at a time approved by the department head and, in the case of department heads, with the approval of the Mayor and Council.
B. 
If an official holiday granted by the Council falls during an employee's vacation period, an additional day of vacation will be granted in lieu of the holiday.
C. 
All vacations must be taken during the current year and may not be accumulated.
D. 
Part-time, temporary or summer employees are not eligible for vacations.
E. 
No employee shall take more than two consecutive weeks of vacation leave, except with the written approval of the Borough Council.
F. 
Seniority prevails in scheduling vacation periods.
G. 
It is department head's responsibility to schedule individual vacations so that the activities of the Borough will be carried on without interruption or inconvenience.
H. 
All vacation schedules shall be completed and filed with the Borough Clerk by April 1 of each year.
