The purpose of this article is to allow for an interim Mayor between the time of death, resignation or removal of the person who is Mayor until the vacancy is filled by the Council as provided by the Laws of New York, Chapter 444 of 1914, Article III, Section 39. The Mayor Pro Tem shall have the same authority as Mayor.
The person who becomes Mayor Pro Tem shall be a Councilman who has served the longest as a member of the City Council at the time the vacancy in the Mayor's office occurs.
