The purpose of the Youth Services Council (YSC)
is to improve the quality of life of Dobbs Ferry youth by identifying
and addressing their needs, providing leadership and enabling adults
and youth to work together collaboratively. The primary mission of
the YSC is substance abuse education and prevention; leadership training;
developing workshops and discussion groups and fostering cooperation
across all sectors of the community including, but not limited to,
the Recreation Department, the Police Department, educational facilities
and civic organizations, in attempt to meet the needs of Village youth.
The YSC shall be responsible for transmitting the concerns and ideas
of Village youth to the Mayor and Board of Trustees in attempt to
effectively and strategically resolve their concerns.
The functions of the Youth Services Council
will be as follows:
B. Help create and train leaders, both youth and adult.
C. Conduct workshops and discussion groups of youths
and adults, including school faculty and administrators, to improve
understanding and communication between individuals and groups.
D. Help initiate and support the performing arts: theater,
musicales, concerts.
E. Increase cooperation between the schools and the community.
F. Provide task forces for special projects, e.g., track
field, tennis courts, music festival.
G. Be supportive of the Recreation Department in its
programs.
H. Cooperate with environmental groups to help keep Dobbs
Ferry beautiful.
I. Be supportive of the work of the Youth Officer.
J. Supervise the Dobbs Ferry Employment Service.
K. Sponsor youth groups in cooperation with the Recreation
Department.
L. Maintain direct contact with the Professional Youth
Workers, an ongoing group which meets once a month.
Members will have three-year terms and be composed
as follows:
A. Nine adults.

B. Four youths (ex officio: between the ages of 14 and
21).
C. Ex officio members: Village Trustee, school representative,
Youth Officer, Employment Service Coordinator, Recreation Department.
