The Village Board of the Village of Greene recognizes
the suburban nature of the Village and that no part hereof is suitable
for the maintenance of wild animals or poultry. The Board is mindful
of both the safety and welfare of the residents of the Village and
the interest of preventing cruelty to such animals, the creation of
hazard by their presence and the noise and odor generated from their
presence.
As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
DWELLING UNIT
A building or portion thereof providing complete housekeeping
facilities for one family.
POULTRY
Includes chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and other poultry
and domestic birds used for food purposes, and shall include pigeons.
WILD ANIMALS
An animal of any species which in its natural habitat is
wild, dangerous or ferocious, including any such animal which may
have been trained and domesticated. "Wild animals" shall include but
not be limited to the following: all members of the dog family, except
domestic dogs; all members of the cat family, except the common domestic
cat; all predator birds, such as eagles, hawks, falcons and owls;
all venomous snakes or constricting snakes; all venomous lizards,
snapping turtles and alligators; and iguanas.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions
of this chapter shall be punished by a maximum fine of $250 or a term
of imprisonment not to exceed 15 days in jail, or both.
