The Board of Trustees designates Rose Hill Reservoir at the
intersection of Rose Hill Avenue and Union Avenue, as an historic
landmark. The Board of Trustees finds and declares that the Rose Hill
Reservoir was one of the early water retention systems developed in
the latter half of the 19th century, in order to assist in fire management,
after a major fire in the down town Village gutted 19 buildings. The
reservoir has special characteristics and historical value to the
Village.

The Board of Trustees designates the World War I Memorial at
18 North Broadway as an historic landmark. The Board of Trustees finds
and declares that the War Memorial, which was designed by J.P Polla,
then Director of the Modern School of Sculpture in Boston Massachusetts,
is significant both as a result of the artist who designed it and
the subject matter which honors those who served our country and those
members of the community who made the ultimate sacrifice and therefore
contains special characteristics and historical value to the Village.

The Board of Trustees designates the house at 740 S Broadway,
not including the garage, as a historic landmark. The Board of Trustees
finds and declares that the construction type, materials and methods
have distinctive characteristics and historical value to the Village
and our region, namely the unique architectural and artistic qualities
as well as period vernacular construction means, methods and materials
of a tenant/farmer house dating back to the mid-1700s. This includes
but is not limited to the attic rafters, floor joists on the first
floor, the floor boards on the first floor, as well as the exterior
appearance of the house, which includes the two additions that are
acknowledged to date. Also, it is important to note that this house
may be the last existing structure of its era (estimated 1750) in
the Village of Tarrytown.

The Board of Trustees designates the front brick facade of the
structure at 17 N Washington Street, including the "1907" emblem,
the existing configuration of the window openings, the signage type
and/or mural painting on the brick and the metal decorative feature
above the existing large wooden doors, as an historic landmark. The
Board of Trustees finds and declares that the front facade is illustrative
of the historic growth and development of the Village and embodies
distinctive characteristics and historical value to the Village. In
making this designation, the Board of Trustees acknowledges that the
doors, including the existing large wooden carriage house style doors;
the windows within the existing openings; and the cornice, will need
to be replaced or restored as part of the structure's historical restoration
and reuse. Nevertheless, all efforts will be made for the renovated/restored
cornice to conform to the architectural style of the existing cornice,
and for the renovation/restoration to incorporate the replacement
of the large existing wooden doors with an exterior façade
that will incorporate the current mural painting on the brick with
new historic bricks or bricks that match, if needed, and/or new painting,
if needed, provided the signage and mural is preserved and/or restored
and the vintage style or historic look of same is maintained.
Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to
prevent the ordinary maintenance or repair of any exterior architectural
feature of any structure, whether a landmark or within an historic
district or otherwise, which does not involve a change in design,
material, color or outer appearance thereof.
