The appropriate officials of the Borough are hereby authorized
to enter into and execute on behalf of the Borough any and all agreements
necessary under the Joint Municipal Activity Act to carry out the
purpose of providing for police mutual aid during emergencies resulting
from natural disasters and/or civil disorders in accordance with the
terms of this article.
The Chief of Police or the duly authorized officer in command
in his absence shall have the authority to request assistance under
such agreements from other municipalities in the event of an emergency
or imminent emergency resulting from natural disasters and/or civil
disorders. Such request shall be made through the Montgomery County
Emergency Operating Center.
Any police officer of any municipalities responding to and providing
such mutual aid in the event of an emergency resulting from natural
disasters and/or civil disorder shall have the same authority and
powers within the Borough of Jenkintown as a police officer of the
Borough for the duration of such emergency.
The Chief of Police shall be the commander of all police officers
provided within the Borough. The Chief of Police, in cooperation with
other municipal authorities, including Montgomery County, shall have
the power to establish procedures to implement this agreement.
The Chief of Police or the duly authorized officer in command
in his absence shall have the authority to send to any municipality
requesting aid up to a maximum of 10% of the Borough's Police
Department for a period of eight hours. The Borough shall pay out
of the general fund any salary payable to such officers sent. The
salaries of any officers requested to serve in the Borough shall be
paid by the sending municipality. All other costs shall be paid by
the County of Montgomery or the municipality requesting mutual aid.
This article and any agreements under it shall continue in effect
until terminated by subsequent ordinances of the Borough.
