No owner, operator or occupant of any residential premises or of any land within a residential zone shall store or permit the storage of more than one unregistered and/or inoperable vehicle on any lot, tract or parcel in Pemberton Township, and storage of such one unlicensed or inoperable vehicle shall be in accordance with the provisions of Pemberton Township Zoning Ordinance, §
180-1 et seq. Excepted from this provision are auto repair facility storage yards and preexisting nonconforming junkyards existing prior to the December 1973 amendment to the Pemberton Township Zoning Ordinance, provided such facilities apply for a junkyard license
within 90 days of the effective date of adoption of this section,
and provided further that such junkyards comply with screening requirements
of this chapter. No owner, operator or occupant of any residential
premises or any land within a residential zone shall store or permit
the storage of any junk or refuse on any residential premises or in
any residential zone, except that storage of wood or wood products
for use in solid fuel-burning heating appliances shall be permitted
when neatly stacked in rear yard areas.
No owner, operator or occupant of any premises
or land in nonresidential zones shall store or permit the storage
of any junk or refuse, including more than one unlicensed and/or inoperable
motor vehicle, except as follows:
A. Any auto repair facility having a valid current certificate
of occupancy (and license where applicable) may maintain an auto repair
facility storage yard of no more than 25 unlicensed and/or inoperable
motor vehicles, provided that the primary use of the property is for
repair of licensed vehicles which will be operable when repair is
completed and that lands used to house such vehicles include no less
than 10,000 square feet of storage area owned by the operator of the
business or his lessor, except that storage of less than 25 vehicles
may be permitted on storage lots of less than 10,000 square feet,
provided that each junk auto is provided at least 400 square feet
of storage area. The operator of such auto repair facility storage
yard shall apply to be licensed within 90 days of the effective date
of adoption of this section, and further provided that all screening
requirements of this chapter are satisfied. In the event of any change
of ownership or operation, the new owner/operator shall apply for
a license and a certificate of occupancy for the continuation of the
facility within 90 days of the change of ownership/operation.

B. All vehicles ordered towed by Pemberton Township (abandoned or impounded vehicles, accidents, etc.) shall be taken to a licensed junkyard or storage yard if removed to a location within Pemberton Township. Vehicles "tagged" by the Pemberton Township Police Department as Township-ordered tows shall be exempted from the twenty-five-vehicle limit at licensed auto repair facility storage yards, provided all such vehicles are stored in accordance with the storage area requirements outlined in Subsection
B. The Code Enforcement Office and the Police Department shall be provided with a list of all vehicles towed on a quarterly basis by the towing company.
