Township of Greenwich, NJ Chapter 427 Key Boxes

§ 427-1 Key box requirement.

All properties within the Township of Greenwich having an automatic fire alarm system or a fire sprinkler system shall be equipped with a key box. Residential property shall be exempt from this requirement.

§ 427-2 Key box type.

The key box shall be of UL type and approved by the Greenwich Township Fire Marshal. The key box shall be installed in a location approved by the Greenwich Township Fire Marshal.

§ 427-3 Key box contents.

The key boxes shall contain the following:

A. Keys to locked points of egress, whether on the interior or exterior of such buildings.

B. Keys to locked mechanical equipment rooms.

C. Keys to locked electrical rooms.

D. Keys to elevator controls.

E. Keys to other areas as directed by the Township Fire Marshal.

§ 427-4 Time for compliance.

All existing buildings shall comply within 12 months of the effective date of this chapter. All newly constructed buildings, not yet occupied, or buildings currently under construction shall comply immediately.

§ 427-5 Violations and penalties.

Any building owner violating this chapter after notice from the Greenwich Township Fire Marshal shall be subject to a fine of $100.
