The City of Rehoboth Beach has maintained the
Boardwalk as a pedestrian way generally parallel with the Atlantic
Ocean. It is the express intention of the Board of Commissioners to
continue to maintain the Boardwalk in generally the configuration
and location where it has existed for a number of years. The purpose
of these regulations is to control attachments to the Boardwalk, certain
uses of the Boardwalk and other matters concerning the Boardwalk.
As used in this chapter, unless the context
otherwise clearly indicates, the following terms shall have the meanings
indicated:
BOARDWALK
The pedestrian way constructed and maintained generally parallel
to the Atlantic Ocean, including but not limited to all connections
and appurtenances thereto, whether on public or private property.
DECKING
The uppermost component of the Boardwalk which forms the
walking surface no matter what the material.
MAIN BOARDWALK
The structure built and maintained by the City that is generally
supported by piles and where the decking's long axis, when composed
of strips of wood or other material, is generally oriented perpendicular
to the ocean and specifically excluding private connections.
PRIVATE CONNECTION
Any structure attached to the main boardwalk which also is
generally attached to an adjacent private building and which may be
constructed in whole or in part on public property or in whole or
in part on private property.
STRINGER
Any structural member which supports and generally runs perpendicular
to the decking material.
