The purpose of this article is to change the term of office for the
Tax Collector of the Town of South Bristol, Ontario County, New York, from
the current two-year term to a four-year term.
Pursuant to § 10 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State
of New York, the term of office of the Tax Collector of the Town of South
Bristol shall be four years. The first elected Tax Collector with a four-year
term would take office on January 1, 2000.
Pursuant to § 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State
of New York, this article is subject to a mandatory referendum. A proposition
shall be submitted for the approval of the electors of the Town of South Bristol
at the next general election of state or local government officers. However,
if within 30 days of the adoption of this article a petition, signed, authenticated
and subject to certification by the Town Clerk as provided for other petitions
pursuant to § 24 of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of
New York, is filed with the Town Clerk requesting submission of such article
at a special election, a proposition on this article shall be submitted at
a special election held by the Town of South Bristol not less than 60 days
after the adoption of this article and the date of such special election shall
be fixed by the Town Board of the Town of South Bristol.
This article shall become effective upon its approval at such election
by the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors of the Town
of South Bristol voting upon such proposition and upon the filing thereof
as required by law.
