[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Lehigh 2-12-1980 as Art. 909 of the 1980 Code of Ordinances. Amendments noted where applicable.]

§ 56-1 Definitions.

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
Any structure used or intended to be used as a dwelling or place of business or industry, or any other use requiring a location identity, but shall not include any accessory building located upon a lot where there is also a main building.

§ 56-2 Map incorporated.

The map known as "Lehigh Township Street Numbering Plan" is hereby incorporated into this chapter.[1]
Editor's Note: The Lehigh Township Street Numbering Plan is on file in the Township offices.
Said map can be maintained current by the addition of new buildings with new numbers as said buildings are constructed.
The Township Secretary/Treasurer, or other appropriate Township official, is authorized when directed to maintain said map in a current status.

§ 56-3 Township to notify owner.

It shall be the duty of the Township to notify property owners of the number which has been assigned to their property.

§ 56-4 Building numbers; duty to affix.

It shall be the duty of the owner of every lot fronting on any of the streets of the Township to affix the number assigned by the Township to a house or building constructed, or built, or placed on said lot.
The size, type and location of said number shall be affixed as noted in § 56-5.
Within 30 days after notification of the address number by the Township, the owners and/or occupants of each property/dwelling/building shall post the address identification number assigned by the Township.

§ 56-5 Location and size of numbers.

Numbers, as assigned to each building in the Township according to the provision of this chapter, may be affixed to, or painted upon, or carved upon such building, or upon a permanent standard, base or support between such building and the street. When a house is set back more than 100 feet from the roadway or if located on a flag lot, the house numbers shall be located by the driveway entrance, along the road, street, or highway.
Each number that is displayed shall be at least three inches tall; shall be of such color and material as to be visible from the street, day and night; and shall be constantly maintained in a complete and legible form.
It shall be the responsibility of the property owner to affix, reaffix, renew, replace, and maintain all numbers that do not continue to conform to the requirements of this section.

§ 56-6 Notice of violation.

The Township Board or any officer or employee of the Township is hereby authorized to give written notice, by personal service or by United States Mail, to the owner and/or occupant, as the case may be, of any premises whereupon the address identification number at the premises is not posted as required by the provisions of this chapter, directing and requiring such owner or occupant to post the address identification number so as to conform to the requirements of this chapter within 15 days after issuance of such notice.

§ 56-7 Violations and penalties.

In the event that any owner, owners or occupants shall neglect, fail or refuse to comply with such notice within the period of time stated herein, penalties for violation of this chapter shall be enforced as summary offenses under the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, pursuant to the mandate of Act 172 of 1996 (53 P.S. § 66601). Any person who shall violate any ordinance listed and described above shall be subject, upon being found guilty thereof before a District Justice in a summary criminal proceeding commenced by this Township, to pay a fine not to exceed $1,000 per violation and to undergo imprisonment in the Northampton County Prison for a term not to exceed 90 days for each violation (Lehigh Township Codified Ordinances Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II).
