There shall be fire lanes established on all shopping centers and areas subject to congestion within the boundaries of the Township of South Whitehall. Said areas to be designated by the Public Safety Commission and/or Township Fire Official. Fire lanes shall be not be less than 10 feet in width and run the length of the frontage of the building and every side where access to the building has been provided, or at least 10 feet directly in front of each area of the building where access to the building has been provided. Fire lanes should be indicated by a solid line painted on the pavement and running the full length of the building and located not less than 10 feet from the frontage of said building excepting areas of the building where access to the building has been provided. Where access to the building has been provided and designated as a fire zone by the Public Safety Commission and/or Township Fire Official, the fire lane shall be not less than 10 feet in width and 20 feet in length. Such area shall be indicated by solid lines painted diagonally on the pavement.
The Chief of Police with the assistance of the Fire Chiefs of the Township of South Whitehall or their duly authorized representatives shall inspect buildings and premises and fire lanes as often as may be necessary to insure that such buildings, premises or fire lanes are free from parked or abandoned vehicles so that fire departments and other emergency vehicles can operate without hindrance and building occupants have free egress in the event of fire or emergency.

Fire lanes shall be marked or posted by the owner of said shopping center and/or area subject to congestion with signs of such dimensions and specification and in such number and at such locations as recommended by the Public Safety Commission and/or Township Fire Official reading as follows: NO PARKING — FIRE ZONE. Said signs shall be obtainable, at cost of manufacture and provision, at the Township of South Whitehall Municipal Building.
Enforcement by the Police Department shall be effected by placement of parking violation tickets on all vehicles in violation of the provisions of this chapter and/or to have said vehicles removed from said fire lane.
Any person who violates any provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $15 and costs. Provided: it shall be the duty of the police officers and of parking enforcement personnel of the Township of South Whitehall to report to the appropriate official all violations of any provision of this chapter, indicating, in each case: the section violated; the license number of the vehicle involved in the violation; the location where the violation took place; and any other facts that might be necessary in order to secure a clear understanding of the circumstances attending the violation. The police officer or other person making the report shall also attach to or place upon every such vehicle a notice stating that the vehicle was parked in violation of this chapter. The notice shall contain instructions to the owner or driver of the vehicle that if he will report to the office of the Chief of Police and pay the sum of $_____ within _____ hours after the time of the notice, or if he will place the sum of $_____ enclosed within the envelope provided, in any of the special parking fine boxes installed at various locations within the Township of South Whitehall that act will save the violator from prosecution and from payment of the fine and costs prescribed in the first sentence of this section. Parking violation tickets shall note the violation and amount of fine as stated in Chapter 336, entitled "Vehicles and Traffic." In determining penalties fire lanes shall be considered as safety zones.
