It is hereby declared that the best interests of the Town of Saugerties are served by the term employment of the Police Chief, such term employment being a mechanism for periodic review of performance and abilities while at the same time ensuring a guarantee of civil service rights for the appointed individual.
For the purpose of this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
TERM EMPLOYMENT
The term of employment of the Police Chief of the Town of Saugerties as set forth in § 47-7 of this article.
The term of employment of the Police Chief of the Town of Saugerties is hereby set at six years from date of first appointment and five years from date of subsequent appointments or reappointments, with an opportunity for reappointment to occur on or after the second anniversary of initial appointment or subsequent reappointments.
A police chief for the Town of Saugerties appointed to a term of employment under this article shall not be removed from office during the term of such employment except according to appropriate civil service laws, rules and regulations.
