The Assessor for the City of Auburn is designated as the Municipal
Addressing Official to coordinate the designation of 911 addresses
for the City of Auburn.
It shall hereafter be the policy of the City of Auburn that
existing private lanes shall be designated by signage according to
the provisions of this article.
The Engineering Department of the City of Auburn is designated
as the agency to approve the color, size and wording of signs not
only to identify private lanes, but also to clearly disclose that
said lanes are privately owned.
The Department of Public Works shall be responsible for the
production and installation of all signage for private lanes. All
costs in connection with the production and placement of signage for
private lanes shall be reimbursed to the City by the owner of the
private lane.
The Municipal Addressing Official shall prepare and make available
an application to name a private lane. The application shall:
A. State the legal name and address of the owner.
B. Identify the lane by providing the book and page number of the deed
recorded in the Cayuga County Clerk's Office evidencing applicant's
ownership.
C. State the tax identification number of the parcel.
D. State the nearest intersection with a public street.
E. State the number of buildings situated on the lane.
A name for a private lane maybe proposed by the property owner
who shall submit a written application provided by the Assessor's
office as specified in this article to the Municipal Addressing Official.
The proposed name must be approved by the Municipal Addressing Official,
who shall index the proposed name against the names of existing public
streets and private lanes, in order to control that a proposed name
shall not conflict nor be of a similar nature to any existing public
street or private lane.
