The Management Information Systems Department (MIS) is hereby established to provide technical assistance to and administration of the City departments' and divisions' computer, telecommunication, and geographic information systems.

(a) 
The MIS Department shall oversee the overall installation and support of all technology related equipment, applications, and systems.
(b) 
The MIS Department shall effectively manage local area networks and connected wide area network, including the establishment of organization-wide standards and security measures for the effective utilization of these networks.
(c) 
The MIS Department shall ensure the integrity of data critical to City departments.
(d) 
The MIS Department shall follow industry standard practices and techniques in the management of new technology projects.
(e) 
The MIS Department shall provide consultation to other City departments in the specification, evaluation, and implementation of application systems to address business problems.
(f) 
The MIS Department shall perform duties as required in support of the City's payroll and other financial application services as well as any duties related to or in furtherance of such duties as are herein provided.

The coordinator of the MIS Department shall be appointed by the Mayor in accordance with civil service regulations to perform a leadership role in information technology and in the coordination of the City's computer equipment and software as defined by the Civil Service Commission's job description. The MIS Coordinator shall further provide strategic direction and business administration of the information systems functions. In addition, the coordinator shall have direct supervision over the MIS Department, inclusive of hiring, directing and disciplining such departmental staff as are approved from time to time in the departmental budget.
This article shall become effective in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Milford.
