Elected and appointed Town officials devote a great deal of
time to Town business, and there is a certain degree of exposure to
potential accidents and/or injuries when such officials are on Town
business. The Connecticut Workers' Compensation Law permits municipal
officials who are not paid to be covered by workers' compensation
insurance. CIRMA, the Town's workers' compensation insurance
carrier, can provide such coverage but only after the local legislative
body has voted to authorize such coverage.
The Town Meeting of the Town of Putnam authorizes workers'
compensation coverage for unpaid elected and appointed Town officials.
