As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the
meaning indicated:
BUILDING
Any structure used or intended to be used as a dwelling or
place of business or industry.
New Britain Borough has drawn up a numbering plan for the entire
Borough and has assigned numbers to all lots and buildings in the
Borough according to said plan.
Any building on a lot abutting on any street or highway in the
Borough of New Britain shall be numbered by the owner or occupant
thereof in accordance with the provisions of this chapter within 30
days of the date of written notice by Borough Council to any owner
or occupier so to do.
The number assigned to any particular building shall be displayed
either:
A. By four-inch high numbers, either Arabic numerals or alphabet letters,
with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch, and of contrasting color,
placed on the building itself if those numbers are readable from the
street;
B. If numbers placed on the building are not readable from the street,
then numbers at least three inches in height shall be placed on both
sides of the mailbox; or
C. If there is no mailbox, then by placing numbers at least three inches
in height on a structure such as a post or sign in a position so as
to be easily readable from the roadway.
No number shall be displayed upon any building except the number
assigned to the building by the Borough.
Any owner or occupant who shall violate the provisions of this
chapter shall, upon summary conviction before a Magisterial District
Judge, be sentenced to pay a fine of $25 plus costs of prosecution.
The Borough also reserves the right to place appropriate numbers within
the public right-of-way in front of any dwelling or place of business
if the owner refuses to do so and to charge the cost of placing the
numbers against the owner.
