Unless a license has been previously obtained and payment therefor
made in advance as hereinafter prescribed, it shall be unlawful for
any person, firm or corporation, whether principal or agent, to show,
exhibit or conduct in the Borough of Northampton public entertainments,
except upon the payment of a license fee as established from time
to time by the Borough Council. Provided, no license fee shall be
charged for lectures on scientific or literary subjects, or for exhibitions
of art conducted by citizens of the Borough, nor for public entertainments
given for benevolent, religious or charitable purposes; provided further,
that no public entertainment shall be conducted later than 12:00 midnight,
unless permission to do so is given by the Mayor at the time of securing
the license, which extension of time shall not be later than 2:00
a.m.; provided further, that all licenses must be applied for before
12:00 noon, for any afternoon public entertainment and before 5:00
p.m. for any evening public entertainment; and provided further, that
no license or permit which has been issued shall be extended or renewed
for any cause whatsoever beyond the time specified in the license.

Any person who shall violate any provision of this chapter shall,
upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a fine not exceeding
$600 and costs and, in default of payment thereof, shall be subject
to imprisonment for a term not to exceed 30 days. Each day that a
violation of this chapter continues shall constitute a separate offense.
