It shall be the duty of each member of the Police Department,
including the Chief of Police and each Police Officer to enforce all
of the provisions of this Code and other ordinances of the City and
to perform all duties not in conflict with the Constitution and laws
of the United States and the State and all provisions of this Code
and other ordinances of the City as may be ordered by the City Council.

A. Any property
or money taken or recovered by members of the Police Force shall be
at once inventoried by the members of the Police Force taking or recovering
the same, showing the date the property or money was so received,
its description specifically given, the name, quantity and value of
the article, the name and residence of the owner, if known and identified
therewith, the place where found, the name of the person from whom
taken, general circumstances connected with the case and name of the
officer recovering the same, which property, together with the inventory
thereof, shall, as soon as convenient thereafter, be turned over to
the Chief of Police or his/her Assistant, who shall thereupon execute
a receipt for the property and an inventory to the member of the Police
Force recovering the same.
B. The Chief
of Police shall retain in his/her possession the inventory and the
property or money, until such property or money is delivered to the
owner or other party, upon the proper identifications thereof or by
direction of the court having jurisdiction thereof. All such property
or money alleged to have been stolen or embezzled and found in the
possession of persons arrested shall be taken with the person arrested
to the Police Station, and all such property or money which is not
immediately delivered to the lawful owners, as above described, shall
be delivered by the member of the Police Force or Officer making the
arrest to the Chief of Police, together with the inventory, and the
same shall, as provided in this Section, be receipted for by the Chief
of Police to such officer or member of the Police Force.
C. All Police
Officers of the Police Force making arrests shall furnish the party
arrested and held with an inventory of all property or money taken
from such person.

A. Each
member of the Police Department shall devote his/her time and attention
to the business of the Department and is expressly prohibited from
following any other calling or being employed in any other business,
except that such member may work a total maximum of twenty (20) hours
per week in other jobs or businesses upon prior consent and approval
of the Chief of Police.
B. Punctual
attendance, prompt obedience to orders and conformity to the rules
of the Department should be rigidly demanded by the Chief of Police.
C. Every
member of the Police Department is expected to perform his/her duty
in a quiet, civil and orderly manner. He/she must use good judgment
and discretion, yet when required, must act with firmness and with
sufficient energy to properly perform his/her duty. He/she must at
all times control his/her temper and refrain from the use of harsh,
violent, coarse, profane or insolent language or wilfully maltreating
a prisoner, citizen or other person.

A. There
is hereby created and established in the City Police Department the
rank and grade of one (1) Lieutenant, the rank and grade of two (2)
Sergeants, and the rank and grade of one (1) Detective.
B. The compensation
for the rank and grade of Lieutenant, the rank and grade of Sergeant,
and the rank and grade of Detective shall be fixed from time to time
by the City Council.

A. All unclaimed
property other than money or cash coming into the possession of the
Trenton Police Department from any source whatever, and having any
value, shall be properly marked or cataloged so as to show its source
and date of its receipt, and shall be kept and disposed of as provided
in this Section.
B. Each
year all such unclaimed property coming into the possession of the
Trenton Police Department and which has remained unclaimed for more
than one (1) year, with exception of money or cash, and the owner
of which is unknown, shall be sold at public auction by the Chief
of Police at a suitable place. Ten (10) days' notice of the time,
date, and place of such sale, and a general description of the property
to be sold, shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation
in the City. Such notice shall be published not more than two (2)
weeks prior to date of the sale.
C. All money
received from the sale of such unclaimed property shall be turned
over to the City Treasurer to be deposited in the General Revenue
Fund of the City. All property for which no bid is received at such
sale shall be destroyed by the Chief of Police in the presence of
any two (2) other members of the Police Department and a certificate
of such destruction, signed by the officers present, shall be filed
with the City Clerk.
D. All money
or cash coming in the possession of the Police Department from any
source whatever which has remained unclaimed and the owner unknown
for a period of at least one (1) year shall be turned over to the
City Treasurer and a record thereof kept by him/her. Should the ownership
of the money or cash be established within a five (5) year period
from the date of its receipt, then the City Treasurer shall turn the
same over to the owner. After a period of five (5) years, any such
unclaimed money or cash shall be deposited by the City Treasurer in
the General Revenue Fund of the City.

A. Police
Officers of the City of Trenton, Missouri, upon direction by the Chief
of Police or his/her duly authorized representative, shall have the
authority to respond to an emergency situation outside the boundaries
of the City of Trenton, Missouri, an "emergency situation" meaning any unforeseen combination of circumstances and/or events
involving danger or imminent danger to human life or property which
requires immediate action.
B. The City
of Trenton, Missouri, hereby authorizes the Trenton Police Department
to cooperate with the other members of and participate as a member
of the North Central Missouri Major Case Squad.
Persons licensed and commissioned as Law Enforcement Officers
within the City before July 1, 2002, may retain licensure with one
hundred twenty (120) hours of basic training.
