The purpose of this Section is to permit and regulate the conduct
of home occupations as an accessory use in a residence, whether owner
or renter occupied, and to ensure that such home occupations are compatible
with the neighborhoods in which they are located. The intent is to
protect residential areas from adverse effects of activities associated
with home occupations, while allowing residents of the community to
utilize their homes as a workplace and a source of livelihood under
certain conditions.

A. Home
occupations include, but are not limited to, the following example
occupations. This Chapter shall not allow more than one (1) person
conducting a home occupation per dwelling.
1. Artists, sculptors, authors, photographers and composers.
2. Computer programming, word processing, personal computer data processing
and home computer bulletin board services.
3. Direct sales product distribution (Amway, Avon, Tupperware, etc.)
provided parties for the purpose of selling merchandise or taking
orders shall not be held more than once a month, shall be limited
to ten (10) customers and shall be held between the hours of 9:00
A.M. and 10:00 P.M.
4. Dressmakers, seamstresses and tailors.
5. Pedicurist, massage therapist, provided only one (1) person may conduct
such activity.
6. Home crafts, such as model making, rug weaving, woodworking, ceramics
(with a kiln up to six (6) cubic feet) and similar activities, provided
that no machinery or equipment that would ordinarily be employed in
connection with a hobby or avocation not conducted for gain or profit.
7. Home offices for architects, engineers, lawyers, realtors, insurance
agents, brokers, ministers, rabbis, priests, salesmen, sales representatives,
manufacturers' representatives, home builders, home repair contractors,
trash haulers and similar occupations.
8. Mail order, not including retail sales from site.
9. Music and art teachers or other tutoring services on an individual
basis.
12. "Work at home" activities where employees of a business, located
at another location, perform work for the business in their own residence,
provided all physical contact between the business and the employee
occurs at the place of business and not the residence, other than
the initial installation of any equipment or other work facilities.

The work activities of the employee shall conform with all other
requirements of this Section.

A. Home
occupations shall be carried out by members of the household occupying
the dwelling.
B. The
home occupation shall be conducted entirely within the principal residential
building or in a permitted accessory building.
C. No
manufacturing or processing of any sort whatsoever shall be done,
except as permitted by Section 400.925(6).
D. No
stock in trade shall be displayed or sold on the premises except for
delivery of orders.
E. Any
produce, products or stock in trade shall be stored inside a building.
F. No
alteration of the principal residential building shall be made which
changes the character thereof as a dwelling.
G. The
home occupation shall not produce offensive noise, vibration, smoke,
electrical interference, dust, odors or heat detectable beyond the
property lines or beyond the walls of the dwelling unit. If the unit
is part of a multi-family structure, it shall constitute a violation
of this Section.
H. No
mechanical or electrical equipment other than normal domestic or household
equipment shall be used.
I. There
shall be no outdoor storage of equipment or materials used in the
home occupation.
J. The
receipt or delivery of merchandise, goods or supplies for use in a
home occupation shall be limited to the United States mail, similar
parcel delivery service or private vehicles with a gross vehicle weight
rating of ten thousand (10,000) pounds or less.
K. Not
more than one (1) vehicle shall be utilized for business purposes.
L. No
customer waiting areas shall be provided.
M. No
vehicles shall be parked and no equipment or materials shall be stored
for trash haulers, home builders, home repair contractors and similar
occupations.
N. A business
license shall be obtained, if required by other ordinances.

A. The
following activities cannot be carried out in a residence located
in a residential area:
2. Auto repairing and painting.
3. Massage parlors or massage therapy establishments.
4. Medical offices for doctors, lawyers, dentists and veterinarians.
5. Palm reading or fortunetelling.
6. Shops for contractors and tradesmen, such as electricians, plumbers
and carpenters.
7. Tanning salons, tattoo parlors or piercing parlors.
8. Trash hauler operations other than a home office.
