Certain documents, three (3) copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Smithville, being marked and designated as the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, 2017 Edition, as published by the National Fire Protection Association, Inc., be and is hereby adopted as the Electric Code of the City of Smithville, in the State of Missouri; for regulating the design, construction, quality of materials, erection, installation, alteration, repair, location, relocation, replacement, addition to, use or maintenance of electric systems in the City of Smithville, and providing for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; and each and all of the regulations, provisions, conditions and terms of such NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, 2017 Edition, published by the National Fire Protection Association, Inc., on file in the office of the City of Smithville are hereby referred to, adopted and made a part hereof as if fully set out in this Section, with the additions, insertions, deletions and changes, if any, prescribed in Section 500.065.

A.
The following Sections are hereby revised:
1.
Article 90 is hereby revised by adding a new Subsection 90.10, which
shall read as follows:
90.10 Administration And Enforcement. The administrative provisions for this code shall be those provisions contained in the Building Code adopted in Section 500.020 of the Smithville City Code.
2.
Article 210 is hereby amended by amending the first paragraph of
Section 210.12(A) to read as follows:
210.12(A) Dwelling Units. All 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and
20-ampere branch circuits supplying outlets installed in dwelling
unit bedrooms shall be protected by a listed arc-fault circuit interrupter,
combination-type, installed to provide protection of the branch circuit.
3.
Article 334 is hereby amended by amending Section 334.10 to read
as follows:
334.10 Uses Permitted. Type NM, Type NMC, and Type NMS cables
shall be permitted to be used in the following.
a.
One- and two-family dwellings and
their attached or detached garages and their storage buildings.
b.
Multifamily dwellings except as prohibited
in Section 334.12.
c.
Other structures permitted except
as prohibited in Section 334.12 Cables shall be concealed within walls,
floors, or ceilings that provide a thermal barrier of material that
has at least a 15-minute finish rating as identified in listings of
fire-rated assemblies.
d.
Cable trays, where the cables are
identified for the use.
(2)
Type NMC. Type NMC cable
shall be permitted as follows:
(a)
For both exposed and
concealed work in dry, moist, damp, or corrosive locations, except
as prohibited in Section 334.10(3).
(b)
In outside and inside
walls of masonry block or tile.
(c)
In shallow chase in
masonry, concrete, or adobe protected against nails or screws by a
steel plate at least 1/16 in. thick and covered with plaster, adobe,
or similar finish.
