The Chief of Police, with the approval of the Mayor or Public Works Committee, shall be authorized to close any street, alley, public place or highway and withdraw the same from public use temporarily and during such period as public work thereon or other public emergency or expediency shall make such action necessary. No person shall use or attempt to use such street, alley, public place or highway so withdrawn from public use or drive or attempt to drive any vehicle or animal thereon. The Chief of Police shall place a sign or placard at each end of the portion of the street withdrawn from public use, the same to have the following words printed thereon in letters three (3) inches high: "Street Closed. This Street Is Closed To Public Use By Authority Of Section 505.010, Brentwood City Code".

No person without authority shall remove, break or extinguish any lantern or danger signal which has been placed on any street or alley to protect the lives and property of others from injury or accident.

No person shall willfully or intentionally destroy, break, damage or injure, or procure or induce another to do so, any curb or curbing on any roadway or street within this City.

All encroachment into or upon any sidewalk, street, avenue, alley or other public place in this City is hereby prohibited. No obstruction such as awnings, hitching posts, lampposts, awning posts, telephone, telegraph and electric light poles shall be erected or placed into or upon any street, sidewalk, avenue, alley or other public place without first obtaining a written permit from the Department of Planning and Development or other persons authorized to issue such permit.

Nothing in this Article shall be construed as to prevent any merchant or other person from placing any articles on the sidewalk while receiving, delivering or forwarding the same; provided that such articles shall not occupy more than one-half (½) of the sidewalk from the edge of the curbstone next to the street and shall not be permitted to remain on such sidewalk longer than two (2) hours.

It shall be unlawful for any person who shall conduct a business of or provide a service for washing automobiles, trucks or other motor vehicles for charge or fee to cause or allow drain water resulting from such washing operations to flow, stand or accumulate on any public sidewalk, alley, street or other public place within this City. Every person who shall conduct such business or provide such service for washing automobiles, trucks or other motor vehicles for charge or fee shall provide adequate and workable means for diverting all drain water resulting from such business or service to the storm sewer nearest the location where such business or service is conducted or provided.

No person shall allow any hedge, bush or shrubbery on his/her premises adjacent to any street or sidewalk to attain a height of more than four (4) feet and to encroach upon or extend over and onto any street or sidewalk so as to interfere with or impede passage thereon.

Any section or portion of a walkway or sidewalk raised, depressed or having any obstruction over one (1) inch in height shall be deemed to be unsafe and imperiling the safety of persons walking over and along such walkways or sidewalks.

A. 
Every resident property owner, or in the case of leased or rented premises, the occupants thereof, shall remove all branches of trees in front of their respective properties or residences which overhang the public sidewalk or street in such a manner and to such an extent that the branches of such trees shall not interfere or impede the free flow of vehicle or pedestrian traffic thereupon and shall remove or cause to be removed any tree or other object which may be a source of danger to persons using the sidewalk or public highway and shall remove all dead limbs of trees that overhang public property.
B. 
If any such person violating the provisions of this Section shall correct and remedy the condition complained of within ten (10) days after a service of a written notice so to do upon him/her, then no punishment shall be assessed or imposed against such person. If such conditions are not remedied within ten (10) days after the service of such written notice, such person shall be arrested and prosecuted upon the charges prescribed and provided for in this Section.

The owner of premises or tenements or vacant lots shall keep the sidewalks in front of and adjoining the property owned swept and clear of snow and ice at all times.
