The Mayor of the City of Hornell shall appoint the City Historian,
and such person shall be one who is interested in the history of the
community and have the ability and willingness to carry out the duties
of the office.
Said historian shall receive a yearly salary to be fixed by
the Common Council, and the appointed Historian shall serve as long
as the appointing officer is in office or until some other person
is appointed.
The City Historian shall be an official comparable to other
appointed officers of the community.
The local historian shall collect, preserve and make available
materials relating to the history of the City of Hornell and shall
also preserve for the historian of the future a record of the present.
The City Historian shall prepare an annual report and submit
the same to the Mayor of the City of Hornell concerning the work that
has been accomplished in the preceding year and to send a copy of
this report to the State Historian.
The City Historian, upon retiring or otherwise leaving office,
is required by law to turn over to his successor or to the local authorities
all materials and correspondence that have been accumulated while
in office.
