There is hereby created a Bike Path and Cycling Advisory Commission,
the purpose of which is to promote cycling throughout the community.
The duties of the Bike Path and Cycling Advisory Commission
shall include the following:
A. To serve as the advisory body to the Town Council, Town Manager,
Planning Board, Department of Public Works and the Department of Development
Services on matters pertaining to bike path and cycling in the Town;
B. To make recommendations to the Town Council;
C. To examine the need for bicycle transportation;
D. To promote programs and facilities for bicycles in the Town;
E. To educate and inform the public and local officials on bicycle issues;
F. To perform special studies and projects as requested by the Town
on bicycle and pedestrian questions, including reviewing development
plans and site plans which may have significant impact on bicycle
transportation;
G. To facilitate citizen participation in consideration of matters involving
bike path and cycling;
H. To review laws, regulations and best practices concerning bicycle
issues and to advise the Town with respect to same;
I. To promote intergovernmental and public/private cooperation and coordination
on bicycle matters;
J. To advise the public and the Town on matters affecting the relationship
between bicycle transportation and parks, schools, and other facilities.
There shall be a member of the Town Council, designated by the
Town Council President, to serve as Council Liaison to the Bike Path
and Cycling Advisory Commission. The council member shall serve in
this capacity during his/her tenure on the Town Council and so long
as he/she retains that designation by the Town Council President.
The Bike Path and Cycling Advisory Commission shall hold regular
scheduled meetings. The minutes of each meeting of the Commission
shall be filed in the office of the Town Clerk.
