By means of resolution duly and lawfully enacted, the City of
Pittston was a charter member of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority
(WVSA) on November 9, 1962, authorized under the Municipal Authorities
Act [Act of May 2, 1945, P.L. 382, as amended]. The authorizing resolutions
and Articles of Incorporation are on file in the archives of the City
of Pittston. The purpose of the WVSA is to receive and treat sanitary
sewerage from member municipalities.
In accordance with the duly enacted resolution and Articles
of Incorporation of the WVSA, the City of Pittston, effective January
1, 1963, shall be entitled to appoint a member of the Board of Directors
of the WVSA. The City Council shall, by resolution, appoint the City's
representative to the WVSA Board, who shall serve a five-year term
of office, or with vacancies due to death or resignation to complete
the remainder of the term, as provided for in the Articles of Incorporation
and the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Act.
The Articles of Incorporation of the Authority were amended
by Ordinance on June 12, 2017.
