Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:70-1 et seq., the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, most recent update, shall be locally enforced within the Township.
The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Township be and the same is designated as the local enforcing agency within the district.

The local enforcement agency shall enforce the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the fire district, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings, provided that property owned or leased by the state of New Jersey or any of its agencies or authorities shall not be subject to the provisions of this article but shall be inspected exclusively by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. The local enforcement agency shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code.

The local enforcement agency shall inspect life hazard uses within the Township required by the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code in accordance with the schedule set forth in the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code, and the inspections shall be carried out by a certified Fire Official or Fire Inspector.
The local enforcing agency may designate an appropriate officer to carry out the duties of this article under its supervision. Such funds as may be necessary to support the operations of the agency shall be raised by the district in the manner provided by law. The Board of Fire Commissioners shall be responsible for obtaining and maintaining public liability insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000 and shall cause the Township, its officers, agents, servants and employees, to be named as additional insureds thereunder.
A Fire Official shall be appointed for the fire district by the Board of Fire Commissioners for a term of one year. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term. The Fire Official shall be under the supervision of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Such Inspectors as may be necessary to carry out all required inspections in the fire district shall be appointed for the fire district by the Board of Fire Commissioners for a term of one year. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term. Each such Inspector shall be under the supervision of the Fire Official of the fire district and the Board of Fire Commissioners.
The Fire Official, all Inspectors and other employees of the fire district shall be subject to removal by the Board of Fire Commissioners for inefficiency or misconduct. Each Fire Official, Inspector or employee to be so removed shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard by the Board of Fire Commissioners or a designated hearing officer, pursuant to law.

Nothing in this article shall be construed as in any way derogating from or limiting the right of any person under Title 11A of the Revised Statutes and its accompanying regulations at N.J.A.C. 4A:1-1 et seq. (Civil Service).

Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 5:70-1 et seq., any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement official shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of Burlington County.

In addition to the inspection and fees required pursuant to the Uniform Fire Safety Act[1] and the regulations of the Department of Community Affairs, additional inspections and fees shall be required as established in Chapter 240, Fees.
