1. 
The following association is hereby recognized as actively engaged in providing fire protection and/or emergency services in the Township:
A. 
Westwood Firemen's Relief Association.
2. 
The above-named association has been formed for the benefit of its members and their families in case of death, sickness, temporary or permanent disability or accident suffered in the line of duty.
3. 
The above-named association of the Township is designated the proper association to receive such funds as are due and payable to the Township Treasurer by the Treasurer of the State of Pennsylvania, from the tax on premiums from foreign fire insurance companies.

The Board of Supervisors shall annually certify to the Auditor General of the commonwealth, the name of the active association and the percentage of the service they contribute to the protection of the Township. Such certification shall be on forms prescribed by the Auditor General.

There is annually appropriated from the Township Treasury all such sums of money that may hereafter be paid into the Township Treasury by the Treasurer of the State of Pennsylvania on account of taxes paid on premiums of foreign fire insurance companies in pursuance of the Act of December 19, 1984, No. 205, § 701 et seq.,[1] as hereafter amended, supplemented, modified or reenacted by the General Assembly of Pennsylvania. Such monies received by the Township Treasurer from the State Treasurer shall be distributed to the duly recognized association within 60 days of receipt. The funds shall be distributed on the basis of the percentage of service established in the certification to the Auditor General and with other provisions of the Act.

1. 
The Township of Valley Volunteer Fire Department and the Westwood Fire Company and their membership are authorized by the Board of Supervisors to perform the following duties in addition to the normal firefighting, rescue and emergency medical duties:
A. 
Participation in drills, practices, training sessions and prefire planning activities authorized by the Fire Chief and supervised by a qualified instructor.
B. 
Participation in community celebrations, ceremonial observances and funerals for deceased firefighters or other public figures where such attendance is deemed appropriate and authorized in writing by the Fire Chief.
C. 
While performing duties necessary to prepare the fire station for use as a polling place for the primary and general elections. This is extended to include like services performed at other municipal or school district buildings for said elections.
D. 
Preparation for and responsible participation in parades providing that attendance has the prior written approval of the Fire Department and/or Ambulance Association and written notice is provided to the Township prior to the event.
E. 
Any public service functions performed for the welfare of the community as long as these activities are responsibly supervised and are sanctioned by the Fire Department or Ambulance Association and written notice is provided to the Township prior to the function.
F. 
Any and all public safety activities undertaken by the Fire Department or Ambulance Association members to render care to the injured, prevent loss of life, provide comfort and security to victims and limit or prevent damage to or loss of property as circumstances may dictate.
G. 
While rendering assistance to police officers where such aid is specifically requested or is done without request to protect our citizens from imminent danger.
H. 
Participation in fire prevention inspections, post-fire investigations, bomb searches and evacuation drills.
I. 
While participating in public programs to promote health and safety, to enlist new members, solicit community support or conduct fund-raising activities so long as the activity is specifically sanctioned by the Fire Department or the Ambulance Association with written notice to the Township prior to the activity or event.
J. 
While safely and responsibly performing maintenance and remodeling work on the Fire Department or Ambulance Association vehicles, buildings, grounds or equipment.
K. 
While performing such other duties necessary for the efficient operation of the volunteer services as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Board of Supervisors, the officers of the Fire Department and the officers of the Ambulance Association.

1. 
The Township of Valley hereby authorizes members of the Volunteer Fire Department to perform the following duties:
A. 
To respond to out of the jurisdiction calls (mutual aid).
B. 
To operate an ambulance, including all activities ancillary thereto.
C. 
To inspect buildings relative to said building being a fire hazard.
D. 
To identify and remove fire hazards.
E. 
To assist in the removal or salvage of all property of any character which has been subject to windstorms, floods, wrecks or fires.
F. 
To assist in the maintenance and repair of any real estate or other property owned by said Volunteer Fire Department or property owned by the Township which is being used or operated by said companies.
G. 
To assist with the Civil Defense Program.
H. 
To attend and participate in fire training schools, exhibitions or programs, whether held locally or not.
I. 
To assist in the maintenance of alarm systems or fire hydrants.
J. 
To assist in the rescue of persons or animals.
K. 
To go and return from any of the above duties in any form of conveyance.
L. 
To perform such other duties as the Board may from time to time approve but only with specific prior Board approval.
M. 
To fight fires.
N. 
Fund-raising.
O. 
Pump outs or water rescues.
P. 
Parades.
Q. 
Authorized calls.
