The Deputy Chief of the Fire Department shall rank next below the Fire Chief, and it shall be their duty to carry out the orders and instructions of the Fire Chief with respect to their command in a prompt and efficient manner.
During the absence of the Chief of the Department from duty, due to sickness or absence from the Township of Bloomfield on leave or special duty, the Deputy Chief assigned shall assume the duties of the Chief of the Department and, during such period, they shall exercise the same powers, perform the same duties and be subject to the same rules and regulations as the Chief of the Department. They shall not, however, issue any orders, make any transfers or assignments or in any way interfere with the general policy of the Department without the approval of the Chief or Township Administrator.

Each Deputy Chief shall:
A. 
Assist with the policy-making, planning, management and administration of the Department and all personnel herein under the direction of the Fire Chief.
B. 
Promptly and officially report to the Fire Chief if they are for any reason unable to perform their duty.
